Synopsis:

The story takes place in a small poor village in the time of the British reign in India. Subedar, a government tax collector, comes to the village accompanied by soldiers. When he sees the beautiful Sonbai, he forgets taxes and openly yearns for her. Furthermore, he asks for her as a gift from the village. The villagers decide to give her away while her husband is away. However, proud Sonbai refuses to subjugate herself to Subedar’s tyranny and runs away to a spice factory.

Even though his ancestors are originally from India, Francis Massey thinks that he is closer to the British colonialists with whom he works every day as a government clerk. When his boss fails to provide the necessary funds for building a road through a forest, Massey skillfully combines his persuasion and threatening skills to secure the realization of the project. Nevertheless, his boss admonishes him for his corrupt methods and the humiliated Massey finds himself in an unfortunate situation.

Soon, Gandhi starts his long-lasting fight for justice and equality which eventually turned the original Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi into the widely famous and respected Mahatma Gandhi.
