Synopsis:
The main character is Mouchette, a fourteen-year-old girl who lives in rural France. Her mother is slowly dying from a terminable illness, and her father is an alcoholic who does not care for his daughter. In school she has no friends and in order to help her family survive, she is forced to do all kinds of jobs. Slowly, Mouchette develops contempt for all the people around her.
