Program of Spanish films
This year’s program of Spanish films is devoted to the crime genre and includes six award-winning titles; from Rodriguez’s dark thriller Marshland, across the excellent film by the Spanish king of thrillers Amenabar Thesis, to the impressive noir The Secret in Their Eyes by the Argentinian director Juan Jose Campanella. Also, we will show the thriller Frozen Silence, directed by Gerardo Herrero and set during the WW II when a Spanish soldier finds himself on the chaotic Russian front. Next on program is Box 507, a brutal pulp film that questions institutional corruption, world of bankers, investors and developers. The program ends with the masterfully directed psychological thriller Sleep Tight starring the two leading Spanish actors, Marta Etura and Luis Tosar.
Films have original Spanish audio and both English and Croatian subtitles.

Synopsis:
Modesto, an honest and hardworking man, manages the local branch of a bank in Costa del Sol. Robbers break in the bank and leave Modesto locked in the room with the safes. Safe number 507 is one of them. Its contents reveal to Modesto that his daughter’s death, which happened a few years ago, was not an accident. In 2003, this film won an award at the Festival of Police Films in Cognac, as well as in Philadelphia where it was acclaimed as being the best police film.

Angela is writing her thesis on audiovisual violence. During her research, she uncovers a snuff film in which the violence is real and the “actors” are murdered during the shoot.
