Panorama: Čehoslovački novi val

Čehoslovački novi val, u iznimno oštroj konkurenciji novovalnih tendencija 1960-ih, naširoko je prepoznat kao jedan od najvažnijih stilskih pokreta u svjetskom filmu nakon talijanskog neorealizma i francuskog novog vala, a njegova važnost i vrijednost potvrđena je kritičarskim i komercijalnim uspjehom, kao i brojnim vrijednim međunarodnim nagradama. Iako je trajao otprilike od 1963-68, riječ je o vrlo raznorodnom stilskom pokretu koji je iznjedrio izniman broj vrijednih djela svjetske filmske baštine koje karakterizira šarolika poetika od realističkih do nadrealističkih tendencija, crnohumorni, ironični i satirični pristup ozbiljnim temama, primjena modernističkih postupaka, politička alegoričnost i drugo. U ovogodišnjem, prvom dijelu retrospektive čehoslovačkog novog vala donosimo izbor od deset čuvenih ostvarenja, dok nas iduće godine očekuje izbor od deset jednakovrijednih ostvarenja manje poznatih širem gledateljstvu.

Ulaz na otvorenje programa (Hirovito ljeto, 3. 5. u 19 sati) je samo uz pozivnice. Cijena ulaznice za ostale projekcije filmova je 15 kn, a za članove 10 kn.

Synopsis:

Plans for the relaxing, quiet summer vacation of a group of middle-aged people (Antonín, his wife Katerina, their friend Hugo and priest Roch) suddenly must change due to the arrival of a circus performer Arnostek (played by Jirí Menzel) and his attractive assistant Anna. Her beauty will ignite Antonín, Hugo and also the priest Roch’s passions, while Katerina will get interested in Arnostek.

Synopsis:

This is Ivan Passer’s feature film debut and his last film made in Czechoslovakia. The film, which contrasts city and country life, tells the story of a young cello player from Prague, Peter, and his elegant girlfriend, Stepa, who visit their friends in the country. The two of them enjoy an idyllic country life and Peter prepares for a concert with the local orchestra.

Synopsis:

A small Czech town has a big problem because there is a serious lack of men: for every sixteen women there is only one man! The owner of a shoe factory asks the National army to transfer one of its divisions to this small town. An agreement is reached and the soldiers arrive in the town. The local women expect young, strong men but instead get old reserve soldiers who are mostly already married.

During WW II, when the Nazi government nationalized all Jews’ possessions, a lazy carpenter, Antonin Brtko, becomes the supervisor of a small store with sewing equipment. The owner of the store is an old, deaf Jewish woman, Rozalie, who lives in her own world and is completely unaware of the war and danger around her. She accepts Antonin thinking that he needs a job and over time they become friends. The film received an Oscar as Best Foreign Film in 1965.
