Branko Belan
15.09.1912, Postire on island Brač - 04.05.1986, Zagreb
Branko Belan graduated from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, and obtained a doctor’s degree in 1936. In 1946 he started working on film as a member of the drama section of Jadran film. From 1970 to 1979 he lectured at the editing division of the Academy of Theatre, Film and Television. He published several novels and short stories. He shot only too long meters, one of which was the Concert – a film that shows much dramaturgic innovativeness and great directorial skill. Since he was a political misfit, Belan managed to shoot only one motion picture and few documentaries before definitely switching to film journalism and theory.
