Petkovič is a director, screenwriter, producer and editor who finished the Higher School of Transportation in Portorož. In 2005, he graduated in film directing from the film school EICAR in Paris. Foor the next three years he taught at the same film school. He returned to Slovenia in 2008 and started to direct his own films. In mid-1990’s he directed several documentaries and from 1997 to 1999 he had been writing the screenplay for and directing the documentary series Odklop. At the same time he directed many short films. He took part in the omnibus directed by four Slovenian directors Desperado Tonic (2004). In addition he wrote the screenplay for the romantic comedy Paris.love (2007), made in Slovenian-French co-production. Utrip ljubezni (2014) is his second feature film.
