Sorin is an Argentinian director, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer. He studied film at the University of La Plata, and in 1970 and 1971 he worked as a cinematographer on several films. He directed promotional films and commercials until 1986, when he filmed his directing

This film brought him an award as best debutant in Venice in 1986, the Argentinian film critics' first film award, best original script in 1987, and the Spanish award Goya for best foreign film in Spanish language in 1987. La era del ñandú in 1986, about an alleged life-extending medicine. During his advertising career he liked to work as an amateur actor. In his second feature-length film
Eversmile, New Jersey (1989) he gave the leading role to Daniel Day-Lewis. After that he continued to film commercials until 2002. With his other feature-length film
