Carlos Sorin
Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1944

Sorin is an Argentinian director, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer. He studied film at the University of La Plata, and in 1970 and 1971 he worked as a cinematographer on several films. He directed promotional films and commercials until 1986, when he filmed his directing debut with feature-length film La película del rey (1986), for which he also co-wrote the screenplay. This film brought him an award as best debutant in Venice in 1986, the Argentinian film critics' first film award, best original script in 1987, and the Spanish award Goya for best foreign film in Spanish language in 1987. He made the false documentary La era del ñandú in 1986, about an alleged life-extending medicine. During his advertising career he liked to work as an amateur actor. In his second feature-length film Eversmile, New Jersey (1989) he gave the leading role to Daniel Day-Lewis. After that he continued to film commercials until 2002. With his other feature-length film Historias mínimas (2002) he won many awards around the world and received international recognition. He directed the mini TV series Ensayo (2003), and took part in the omnibus of ten directors 18-j (2004) about the terrorist attack that took place on July 18, 1994 in Argentina. He directed the drama El perro (2004), comedy El camino de San Diego (2006), about the cult of football player Diego Maradona, drama La ventana (2008) and psychological drama El gato desaparece (2011). Drama Días de pesca (2012) is currently his last film.
