Dettre (1956) is a Hungarian director and screenwriter. After graduation, he worked as an assistant director. For political reasons, he moved to the US where he studied and taught editing at the University in New York. He moved back to Hungary in 1991. He directed the documentary,
A Színéstnö és a halál (The Actress and the Death, 1993) that in 1995 won an award at the Hungarian Film Week as the best documentary. His feature films include
Tekerölantos naplója (The Diary of the Hurdy-Gurdy Man, 1999) and
Felhő a Gangesz felett (Cloud over the Ganges, 2002).
