Maja Weiss

Weiss is a Slovenian director and screenwriter who graduated from the Ljubljana Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in 1988. She directed the documentary film Fant, pobratim smrti (1992) about a boy from Chernobyl who ended up in Slovenia during the short war for independence of the country. Twenty years later she made the sequel Fant, pobratim smrti 2 (2012). She mainly directs documentaries and has so far made Cestu bratstva in enotnosti (1999), and together with the human rights activist and travel writer Tomo Križnar she is the co-director of Nuba, čisti ljudje (2000) and Dar Fur: War for Water (2008). In addition, she directed the feature films Varuh meje (2002) and Instalacija ljubezni (2007). Her newer documentaries include Kam je izginil delavski razred? (2010) and Banditenkinder - slovenskemu narodu ukradeni otroci (2014), which is currently her last film. From 2005 to 2007, she was the president of the Slovenian Association of Film Authors.
