Oktavijan Miletić

Oktavijan Miletić (October 1, 1902, Zagreb – March 17, 1987, Zagreb) is the son of Stjepan Miletić’, who was the reformer of Croatian theatre. From his early childhood, he was interested in film from an early on and at the age of twelve received his first film projector. Before WW I, he went to Vienna, where he volunteered as assistant to the film director H. Homme. In 1926, he bought a Pathe 9,5 mm film camera and began shooting amateur short films, under the patronage of the film company Oktavijan film. His first success was the film Na žalost samo san (1932), which won the Photo Kino Verlag award in Berlin. He became a professional film director when he began working for Zora film. He made three feature films, (the most important being Lisinski from 1944). He remains the most prominent pre-WWII director, a pioneer of Croatian film and an outstanding cinematographer.
