Andrzej Munk
16.10.1921, Krakow - 21.09.1961, Łódź

After studying architecture and law, in 1950 he graduated from the Polish film school in Łódź (camera and directing). He made many short documentaries such as Kongres kombatantów (1949), Kolejarskie slowo (A Railwayman\'s World, 1953) and the feature documentary Gwiazdy musza plonac (1954). Documentary elements are also present in his feature film debut Blekitny krzyz (Men of Blue Cross, 1955) and his other film Czlowiek na torze (Man on the Tracks, 1957). His biggest successes were films Eroica (Heroism, 1958) and Zezowate szczescie (Bad Luck, 1960). In 1961, his filming of the film Pasazerka (The Passenger, 1963) was interrupted by Munk’s sudden death in a car accident. Director W. Lesiewicz finished the film.
