Synopsis:
This comical drama tells two stories about courage n Poland during the WW II. In “Scherzo alla Polacca” one man, trying to avoid going to war, starts to work in the black market in order to feed his family. His drunkenness, indolence and cowardice are portrayed in a comical manner as natural behavior in a world gone mad. He unwittingly gets involved in the Polish resistance movement, over time becoming a brave and respected member of the rebels. The second part, “Ostinato Lugubre”, is a story about Polish people in a Nazi concentration camp. The prisoners fanatically believe that one man among them successfully escaped. However, that particular man hides in the camp, eventually committing suicide. In 1959, this film won the FIPRESCI award at the film festival in Mar de Plata.
