Director and screenwriter who studied applied arts, used to do painting, photography and poetry writing. He was one of the founders and an active member of a theatre group, and his first job on film was as a co-screenwriter and co-producer on
Maa Bhoomi (Our Land, 1979) by director Goutam Ghose. His directing debut was
Rangula Kala (1983) where he also appeared in the leading role. In the years that followed he made documentaries such as
Maa Ooru (My Village, 1988), and success with the critics was achieved by
Daasi (1988). Archana, in the leading role, was awarded Silver Lotus for best actress, while the film was awarded best regional film in Telugu language. Again having Archana in the leading role, Bongu Narsing Rao made his third film,
Matti Manushulu (1990). Currently his last film is
Harivillu (2003).
