PROGRAME ARCHIVE: DIRECTOR
Roy Andersson
31.03.1943, Gothenburg, Sweden

Andersson is a Swedish director and screenwriter. He graduated from the Swedish Film Institute in 1968. After a few short films and the medium length Saturday October 5th (Lördagen den 5.10, 1969) he made his first feature film A Swedish Love Story (En kärlekshistoria, 1970), a story about two teenagers in love, which was popular with critics and audiences alike. His next film, the crime drama Giliap (1975), was not well accepted by critics and it failed in theatres. Therefore, it was hard for the director to find producers for his next project and he turned to directing commercials. In 1981, he founded his own production house Studio 24 for which he made all his later films: the short feature films Something Happened (Någonting har hänt, 1987) and World of Glory (Härlig är jorden, 1991), as well as feature dramas Songs from the Second Floor (Sånger från andra våningen, 2000) and You, the Living (Du levande, 2007).
