Stuhr is a film and theatre actor, director and screenwriter. He was a rector at the Academy of Drama Arts in Kraków from 1990 to 1996. He graduated from Jagiellonian University and the Academy of Drama Arts in Kraków. He began his career as a theatre actor in Ludowy theatre in Nowa Huta, where he also later directed his first plays. He acted in films by Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Jarocki, Feliks Falk, Krzysztof Zanussi and Krzysztof Kieslowski who very much influenced Stuhr’s later career. He won an award at the Polish Film Festival for his role in Kieslowski’s
Amateur (Amator, 1979). He directed
