Vlado Škafar

Director

Škafar is a Slovenian director, screenwriter and editor. He was the co-founder of the Slovenian Cinematheque and the film festival in Izola Kino Otok. In 1998 he made his first short film Stari most. Afterwards he directed the feature documentary Peterka: Leto odločitve (2003), Pod njihovo kožo (2006) and two film essays Letter to a Child (Otroci, 2008) and Nočni pogovori z Mojco (2009). In 2010, he made his feature film debut with Dad (Oča) that was shown in many international film festivals. After his poetical and meditative documentary A Girl and a Tree (Deklica in drevo, 2012), he made his second feature film Mama (2016). In 2015, in collaboration with the painter Joni Zakonjšek he published the illustrated book of haiku poetry “Circles”.

Synopsis:

On a beautiful autumn Sunday, father and son spend the day together. They go fishing, discuss their relationship, try to solve their previous misunderstandings and make up for lost time. Dad is a poetic story about the relationship between parents and children as well as the influence of the social situation on relationships between people. The film is devoted to Silvan Furlan, founder of the Slovenian Cinematheque.
