Synopsis:
Aldo, a worker employed in a sugar refinery in North Italy, lives with Irma, who is married to another man. They have a little daughter. When Irma finds out that her husband died, Aldo asks her to marry him. But Irma refuses and leaves him. Deeply disappointed, he takes his daughter and roams around Italy. On his wanderings he meets different people, among others a woman from his past. He cannot forget Irma, and decides to go back and look for her… The story takes place in a gloomy atmosphere of the Valley of Po. It won an award at the Locarno film festival.
