Synopsis:

An absurdist, black-humour story about a woman, a hen and subverting the Egyptian patriarchy. It is Mando’s sixth birthday party and it includes a magic act. One seemingly harmless trick gets out of hand when his father turns into a hen and the magician cannot bring him back. The inconspicuous and submissive mother is forced to take the reins and try to reverse the unfortunate spell. As she tries to learn everything there is to know about poultry, she realizes the new situation may not be so bad. The film won the Grand Prix and the FIPRESCI Award at Cannes International Critics’ Week.
