Synopsis:
After sending shivers down the spine of thrilled critics and viewers alike with his grisly debut The Witch (Sundance – Best Directing), director Robert Eggers returns with another mesmerising horror-fantasy. Taking place in late 19th century, the story follows two lighthouse keepers (Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson) on an eerie, remote island. Under the pressure of a crammed space, jealousy and tender nerves, the relationship between the two men breaks. Paranoia sets in, evolving into a full-blown psychological war. Lending the hallucinatory effect to this nightmarish thriller is the cinematography of Jarin Blaschke (The Witch). The film won the FIPRESCI Prize in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes.
