Gouichi Takata is an elderly Japanese man who has been living in the fishing village where he moved after his wife passed away. He learns from his daughter-in-law Rie that his son Kenichi is in a hospital and tries to visit him. Kenichi is still offended that father abandoned him after his mother’s death and refuses to see him. Rie gives Gouichi a tape with a documentary that Kenichi started to make. Realizing that his son might soon die, Gouichi decides to finish the film and thus earn his son’s forgiveness.
