Östlund is Swedish director, screenwriter and editor. He started to work on film as an amateur and made skiing films. He graduated with a degree in directing from the University in Göteborg in 2001. Two years after that he founded the production house
Plattform Production with his colleague Erik Hemmendorff. After a few documentaries, he made his first feature film
The Guitar Mongoloid (Gitarrmongot, 2004) and won the FIPRESCI award at the Moscow Film Festival in 2005. He also made the short film
Autobiographical Scene Number 6882 (Scen nr: 6882 ur mitt liv, 2005) and the feature film
Involuntary (De ofrivilliga, 2008). He is currently working on his third feature film
