Synopsis:
In post-war Germany young Karla gets a job as a professor in a high school. She is fresh from school herself and besides teaching the kids the required curriculum, she wants to instruct them how to think critically and independently. Because of her approach to teaching and a close and tolerant relationship to her students, she gets in trouble with the school’s administration, especially the school’s inspector. She finds support from the fisherman Kaspar who gave up on a career of a journalist because of constant censorship.
