This autumn’s program of Japanese films is focused on a decentered kitchen (let us remember Roland Barthes’ notes on decentered food in Empire of Signs) and return to hometown as a symptom of quest for lost dreams of nostalgia.

Mari decides to leave Kyoto where she works as a set designer and returns to her hometown on the coast. A teenager Hajime helps her with the preparation of ingredients and with the decoration of the shop before the grand opening.

Karaage is a name for specific Japanese food deep-fried in oil. Also popular are the karaage fast food restaurants that first appeared in the town Usa in Oita prefecture in Japan.
